Miss Deaf New York Pageant Eligibility Rules

1. The contestant must be single, never have been married nor had a marriage annulled, and must have never given birth to a child.
2. The contestant must be female whose age shall not be less than eighteen (18) nor more than twenty eight (28) years by the first official day of the State Pageant in which she completes. She will supply a copy of her birth certificate or other satisfactory document as proof of her age.
3. The winner must be a high school graduate by the first official day of the National Pageant in which she will compete (Summer 2007 ). The contestant may qualify for the Local/State Pageant before she graduates from high school.
4. The contestant must have an average hearing loss of 65 decibels or more in the better ear at 500. 1000. 2000. and 3000 Hertz and must submit a formal audiogram signed by a certified audiologist, providing that her hearing evaluation must be done within two (2) month prior to the Local/State Pageant in which she competes.
5. The contestant must be a citizen of the United State of America at any time before the deadline for submitting the application to enter the State Pageant.
6. The contestant must never have been convicted of any crimes, other than minor traffic infractions.
7. The contestant shall posses talent, poise, charm, intelligence, inner beauty, social ability and maturity.
8. The contestant must demonstrate good moral character before and during the State Pageant, and if chosen Miss Deaf New York, must maintain exemplary conduct.
9. The contestant must be able to present her talent routine or performance within four (4) minutes. The talent routine must be presented by the contestant live and in person. The contestant must furnish her own props, at her expense, needed for her performance. If her talent runs beyond the four minutes limit, points will be deducted from the talent portion of her overall score.
10. In deciding upon her talent routine, the contestant should consider the fact that she will be performing before a primarily deaf audience. Her talent will be decided by a panel of judges, who will make their decision based primarily on their visual observation of the contestant’s talent.
11. The contestant will be required to give two-minutes (2 minutes) presentation on her platform. The contestant will be expected to state her platform idea, and will be expected to explain why she chooses her particular platform. A platform is a subject, which may provide a basis for Miss Deaf New York’s presentation and project throughout her two-year reign. The contestant should dress in business suits. 12. The contestant must be an individual member of the State Association affiliate of the National Association of the Deaf in order to participate in the State Pageant.
13. The contestant must bring her own wardrobe, which consists of a list of clothing given to her at a later date by the State Pageant Assistant, and a costume (if needed) for her talent performance.
14. The contestant must submit an official application, an audiogram, a copy of her birth certificate and an entry fee $150.00 by Feb.1, 2007. Check Payable to ESAD/Pageant and mail to State Pageant Director..
15. The contestant must send one (1) black and white 5x7 photographs (waist-up) taken by a professional photographer. She shall also send one (1) color 5x7 photographs. The background of the picture should be plain and done in a studio environment. She must submit all two (2) pictures no later than Feb 1, 2007. Mail to State Pageant Director, Linda Mosca-Ginis
16. The winner of the Miss Deaf New York Pageant shall relinquish the title to the first runner up should she marry or become pregnant during 2-years reign.
17. Failure to adhere to any of these rules may automatically disqualify the State Winner from competing in either the Local/Pageant or the National Pageant.
18. It is mutually agreed by and between the Empire State Association of the Deaf, Inc (ESAD) and the contestant that the ESAD shall have no liability whatsoever to a contestant. The ESAD shall have no liability for loss or damage resulting from any cause to the property or the contestant, or for any lost profits, sales, or business opportunities, or any other type of direct or indirect or consequential damages. It is further understood and agreed that all claims against the ESAD for any such damage, loss, or personal injury are expressly waived by the contestant and assumed as the contestant’s responsibility.
19. The contestant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the ESAD, its agents, officers and employees, from all claims, actions, and suits, including court costs, attorney’s fee and other expenses, arising out of the negligent acts or omissions of the contestant. |
