The Empire State Associtation of the Deaf is the oldest State Association founded in 1865 by the graduates and former pupils of the New York Institute for the Deaf. Originally, the name of the assocation was 'Empire State Deaf-Mute Association'. It was changed to it's present title in 1912.
The deaf leaders and its members at that time when ESAD was formed, were inspired with ideals and followed the objective of the Association that it shall protect the interests of the deaf people.
ESAD became affiliated with the National Association of the Deaf in 1941 and received it's incorpation papers in 1941.
Today, ESAD continues to commit its services through the advancement of the moral, social, intellectual and economic standings for the deaf citizens of New York State.
